Hi, I’m Kylon.
I believe that you don’t have to have a college degree to be successful.
Why do I believe this?
Because I am a college dropout turned successful entrepreneur, and I’m not the only one.
There is a large, unreached group of college students who are unhappy; they don’t fit into the system. These students don’t want to waste four years of potential opportunity and go thousands into debt just to get a piece of paper that has a bleak chance of landing them a decent job. They want to be entrepreneurs.
Does this describe you?
There is a lack of change happening with our educational system and the result is college students are starting to see their future in a different light.
At this point it in time, it is easier than ever before to start your own business. The world is incredibly connected, resources are everywhere, and finding funding for great ideas is easier than it’s ever been. In addition, we have the ability to access knowledge and information about anything, anytime, anywhere. This not only makes self-education possible, it makes it a better alternative for many who (barring those who’s future occupation requires a degree) would rather be more efficient with their time and money.
Do some quick Google searches and you will see some pretty outrageous numbers regarding our national student debt, and the percentage of college graduates who are able to get decent jobs.
Speaking of Google, they could care less if you have a college degree or not.
With these realities, it is a fact that the college degree is losing it’s value. Keep in mind I am speaking strictly in terms of entrepreneurship. If I’m in the ER, I certainly want medical professionals with the proper degrees caring for me!
For all of these reasons, I decided to launch Successful Dropout. A podcast that will give you the inspiration, tools, resources, and guidance to go from dropout, to successful entrepreneur.
I will be interviewing successful entrepreneurs who never finished college. In these interviews, you will hear inspiring stories about the ups, the downs, and the lessons learned on their entrepreneurial journey.
I will also be interviewing experts in various fields such as funding, productivity, product development, etc for the purpose of revealing exactly what it takes to start and run a successful business.
I want to build a community of like-minded individuals who support each other on their way from dropout to success.
I also want to make a couple things clear:
- In no way am I trying to “bash” college. The educational system certainly has it’s faults, and it has it’s merits, but this is about another alternative to the traditional path; entrepreneurship. If you want to be a doctor or an engineer, stay in school!
- There is a difference between dropping out, and failing out. I am in favor of the former, not the latter. You don’t quit college to become an entrepreneur because you just can’t cut it, or you don’t like it. The world is a lot nicer to students. Being an entrepreneur is risky, difficult, and takes incredible drive and patience. It is a harder mountain to climb, but if you have it in you, the view is fantastic, and the reward is great.
This podcast…this movement…is for the outliers, the innovators, the rebels, those that dare to dream and act on their dreams.
